Question life and question time, Tear out the rust that ruins your mind. It’s a razor’s edge if you want freedom, An empty sky is something to believe in. Dark fire fills the sky Some say it was Satan's eyes Or maybe, It’s the fires of California? You can take a wish, take a dream, Mix it up like medicine in big machines. A heart of blue like waves of seas, Sketchbook eyes burnin’ Emerald Green. A naked child, bare in the sands, Some say it was Jesus’s hands Or maybe, It’s the fires of California?

Magnolia 03:58
Through the howlin’ dogs eyes, You can see the big crosses burnin’. The wind blows over the Mississippi, At the oak tree they will be readin’ a sermon’. The magnolias blooming, Devils come, the Devils arrived. Ghost sheets are lined in fire Preaching, “That the Lord is by our side!” The night’s calm, the night’s still, After the whips snapped - souls were killed. If you have read ‘bout the crusades, You know nothing has really changed. My sweet love, Tell the kids “Daddy ain’t a comin’ home.” My sweet love, Tell em “Daddy’s watchin’ from above.” All that’s done in the name of God, All the poisoned sermons that pollute. While at midnight there’s an oak tree hangin’, And the black branches bear a ‘Strange Fruit’. And the black branches bear a ‘Strange Fruit’.

about

This is a calm folk, singer/songwriter EP. This album was written around the title song "Fires of California". I wrote that song after watching a news story about the devastating fires in California a few years back. I took the cover photo in a small Oregon town. I felt the classic "Americana" hamburger stand represented the feel of this album. After looking at the cover it made me think of John Prine - so i decided to cover and put one of my favorite Prine songs on the record. I'm very proud of this EP. Hope you all enjoy.
